What the Corvette certification means

Corvette construction mixes materials that behave nothing like ordinary body steel, and panel alignment on a low, wide car is visible from across a parking lot when it is even slightly out. Fit and finish are judged against the car's own factory tolerances, and we would rather tell you a panel needs replacing than hand back a repair that reads as a repair.

A Corvette is not a steel car, and cannot be repaired like one
This is the part that disqualifies most shops. A Corvette's outer panels are composite, not steel, and the structure underneath is aluminum. Neither behaves like the sheet metal a general body shop works on all day. Composite panels are bonded and repaired to their own specification; aluminum structure needs its own tools and its own work area.
The aluminum point is not fussiness. Steel dust settling on aluminum starts a corrosion process that surfaces months later, long after the car looked finished and the check cleared. Keeping the two apart is a working practice, not a preference, and it is one of the things the GM certification exists to enforce.
The C8 moved the engine, and moved the problem
The mid-engine C8 is a fundamentally different car from the front-engine C7 and everything before it. Mass sits somewhere else, the structure is arranged differently, and a front impact loads it in ways that have nothing in common with the previous generation.
So generation matters here more than on almost any other vehicle we repair. We establish exactly which Corvette, which model year and which trim before quoting, and work from GM's published procedure for that specific car rather than from experience with the last one.
Fit and finish, on a car people look at
A Corvette is low, wide, and parked where people walk past it. Panel alignment that would go unremarked on a crossover is visible from across a parking lot here, and the owner already knows what the gaps looked like before the accident.
We finish to the car's own factory tolerances and match paint to your actual panel rather than to a code — sprayed test card, checked in daylight, blended into the adjacent panels. And we would rather tell you honestly that a panel needs replacing than hand back something that reads as a repair every time you walk up to it.
