Frame Straightening & Structural Repair

Computerized frame straightening to factory tolerances — measured against the manufacturer's own specifications, verified again before a drop of paint goes on, and backed by our Lifetime Written Warranty.

Mon–Fri · 8:00a – 5:30p · Closed weekends

After a serious collision, the question that matters most isn't paint or panels. It's whether the structure underneath is straight. Your vehicle's frame is what carries the suspension, locates the steering, and absorbs crash energy the way the engineers intended. If it's bent — even slightly — nothing else about the repair is right until it's fixed.

At Luxury Auto Body in Austin, frame repair starts with measurement, not guesswork. We measure your vehicle's structure against the manufacturer's own specifications, then use computerized frame straightening to bring it back within factory tolerances. And before any body or paint work begins, we measure again to confirm it's actually there.

We're a GM Certified collision center with separate written factory certifications for Genesis, Kia, Dodge, Jeep, Fiat, Nissan, and Infiniti, and every structural repair we deliver is covered by our Lifetime Written Warranty. If you suspect frame damage — or you're just not sure — call (512) 986-7327 for Austin or (512) 572-5245 for Round Rock, or request a time online, and our front desk will confirm your appointment.

Measurement Comes First — Against the Factory's Own Data

You can't straighten what you haven't measured. Every structural job at Luxury Auto Body begins with measurement: we check your vehicle's key structural points against the manufacturer's specifications for your exact year, make, and model. That comparison tells us precisely what moved, in which direction, and how far.

This matters because frame damage rarely announces itself. A car can come off a tow truck looking like a bumper job and still be carrying structural damage hidden behind the panels. The measurements settle the question with data instead of opinion — for you, and for your insurance adjuster.

Once we know exactly what's out of specification, computerized frame straightening pulls the structure back: controlled, measured corrections checked against the factory data as the work progresses, not eyeballed against a straightedge. The goal is never "close enough." It's the manufacturer's tolerance, because that's the dimension every other part of your car was built around.

Why a True Frame Matters

The frame is your car's skeleton. The suspension, steering, drivetrain, body panels, and safety systems all locate off of it. When it's out of true, the problems don't stay in one place — they spread through everything attached to it.

Even if your car still "drives fine," have it measured after a significant hit. Structural damage hides behind bumpers and panels, and what's invisible today becomes expensive — or unsafe — later. The inspection and estimate are free.

  • Safety: your vehicle's structure is engineered to absorb and redirect crash energy in a specific way. A bent structure may not protect you as designed in a second collision.
  • Handling: a car that pulls to one side, a steering wheel that sits off-center, an alignment that won't hold — these are classic signs the structure underneath has moved.
  • Tire wear: when suspension mounting points are out of position, tires wear unevenly and fast, and no alignment can fully correct it until the structure is straight.
  • Fit and finish: doors that need a slam, uneven panel gaps, wind noise, and water leaks often trace back to a structure that's out of square.
  • Driver-assistance systems: cameras and sensors aim from fixed structural points. We recalibrate driver-assistance sensors where required so they work as the manufacturer intended.

Unibody vs. Full-Frame: What's Actually Under Your Car

Most modern cars, crossovers, and many SUVs are unibody: the body shell and the frame are one engineered, welded structure. There are no separate frame rails to swap — the structure is the body. That design makes vehicles lighter and safer in a crash, but it also means collision energy can travel through the structure and show up far from the point of impact. It's exactly why we measure multiple reference points across the vehicle rather than just inspecting the area that looks damaged.

Pickup trucks and some large SUVs are body-on-frame: the body bolts to a separate ladder frame underneath. The straightening approach differs, but the standard doesn't — the frame goes back to factory dimensions, verified by measurement, or it isn't repaired.

Modern structures also increasingly mix high-strength steels and aluminum, and some sections must be repaired or sectioned according to manufacturer procedures rather than pulled. For those vehicles, see our Advanced Frame Repair page. Aluminum structures are their own discipline entirely — they require dedicated aluminum tools and an isolated work area to prevent contamination from steel, which is covered on our Aluminum Repair page. Not every Austin body shop carries that capability; we do.

Verified Before Paint Ever Goes On

A frame pull isn't finished when the machine stops. It's finished when re-measurement confirms the structure is back within the manufacturer's exact tolerances. We verify that before any body or paint work begins — because cosmetic work laid over an unverified structure doesn't fix the problem, it hides it.

The verified repair is documented, and the work is covered by our Lifetime Written Warranty — a comprehensive written lifetime guarantee on all services, for as long as you own the vehicle. As a GM Certified collision center with written factory certifications across multiple makes, we repair structures to factory specification, not approximation. That's the difference between a car that looks repaired and a car that is repaired.

Insurance, Timelines, and What to Do Next

Structural damage almost always means an insurance claim. We work with all major insurance carriers, and we're a State Farm Select Service shop, which means a faster, pre-approved process for State Farm customers. We document the structural measurements and damage thoroughly, work directly with your insurer, submit supplements for approval when disassembly reveals hidden damage, and bill your insurer directly — in most cases you only pay your deductible when you pick up the car.

We'll also be straight with you about time and money. Minor repairs typically run a few business days, but heavy or structural damage can take three weeks or more, especially when parts are on backorder or hidden damage surfaces during teardown. Costs range just as widely — minor work may run a few hundred dollars while structural repairs can reach several thousand — which is why the only honest answer is a free, written estimate after we've measured the car.
