Repair or Replacement: An Honest Call, Not an Upsell

Not every chip means a new windshield. A small chip away from the edges and outside the driver's line of sight can often be repaired — the resin fill stops the damage from spreading and restores most of the glass's strength. We'd rather make that repair than sell you glass you don't need.

Replacement is the right call when a crack has started to travel, when the damage sits at the edge of the glass where it compromises the bond, when it's in front of the driver's eyes where even a good repair leaves distortion, or when it sits in the sweep of a windshield-mounted camera. On timing: a windshield replacement itself typically takes one to two hours. Then the work that actually protects you begins — recalibrating any driver-assistance sensors and letting the adhesive cure. The urethane that bonds the glass to the body needs time to set before the vehicle is safe to drive, and that cure time isn't something we rush. When you pick up your vehicle, we'll tell you the exact safe drive-away time so there's no guessing.

ADAS Recalibration: The Step You Can't See, and Can't Skip

If your car has lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, or adaptive cruise control, there is almost certainly a camera mounted on or behind your windshield running those systems. When the glass comes out, the camera's relationship to the road changes — new glass, new bracket position, fractions of a degree of difference. A camera that's aimed even slightly wrong reads the road wrong, and the systems built to protect you respond to what the camera sees, not to what's actually there.

That's why driver-assistance systems must be recalibrated to factory specifications after a windshield replacement. Luxury Auto Body performs the required ADAS recalibration as part of the job, so your safety systems work the way the manufacturer intended when you drive away. OEM vs. Aftermarket Glass: Straight Guidance

OEM glass is made to your manufacturer's exact specifications — the same curvature, optical quality, and camera-bracket placement as the glass your car left the factory with. Aftermarket glass can be a perfectly serviceable, lower-cost option, and it may be the one your insurance policy prefers to pay for.

Where the difference genuinely matters is on vehicles with windshield-mounted cameras and sensors. Calibration depends on the glass the camera looks through, so on those vehicles we recommend OEM glass — and we'll tell you why in plain terms, not pressure. On a vehicle without those systems, aftermarket glass may serve you just as well.

Insurance, Comprehensive Coverage, and Your Deductible

Windshield and glass damage is usually claimed under the comprehensive portion of your auto policy, not collision — which generally means it's treated as a not-at-fault claim. Some policies waive the deductible for glass work; many don't. Coverage varies enough from policy to policy that anyone promising you'll pay nothing, sight unseen, is guessing. We won't do that.

What we will do is verify your glass coverage with your insurer before any work begins, so you know your exact out-of-pocket cost before we touch the car. We work with all major insurance carriers, we're a State Farm Select Service shop — which means a faster, pre-approved process for State Farm customers — and we bill your insurer directly so you're not fronting the cost and chasing reimbursement.
